Will pop-up blocking software, third-party toolbars, spyware, or firewalls affect my use of the Alpine Management Console?

Yes, pop-up blocking software, third-party toolbars, spyware, and firewalls can affect your use of an Alpine Management Console.

Warning: You must disable any pop-up blocking software prior to using your Alpine Management Console.

Note: Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes a firewall and pop-up blocking. These features can prevent the Alpine Management Console from displaying or functioning correctly.

Pop-up blockers

We understand the desire to block pop-up advertisements; however, there are legitimate uses for pop-up windows. Pop-up windows appear in many important areas throughout the Alpine Management Console . Use of pop-up blockers that suppress pop-up windows can prevent you from accessing the Alpine Management Console or cause the Alpine Management Console and its various applications to malfunction. Such applications include the Media Manager, Link Manager, Color Picker, Table Editor, and the Help Center.

If you have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer, you must disable it while using the Alpine Management Console. Many pop-up blocker and firewall programs will allow you to set permissions to enable pop-up windows to open for a specific site, such as the Alpine Management Console. Some applications allow you to disable the pop-up blocking function while you are using a site and then enable it when you leave. However, there are some programs -- often installed by file-sharing applications -- that require complete removal from your system before the pop-up windows within the Alpine Management Console will work properly.

Symptoms of problems caused by pop-up blockers: If you are using the Alpine Management Console and you are experiencing issues with blank windows opening, pop-up windows that fail to open as expected, pages that do not load properly, or "Error on Page" alerts, they may relate to your pop-up blocker software settings.

Recommendations: If you are experiencing any of the symptoms described above, please contact the company from which you purchased or downloaded the pop-up blocker software. Let them know that you would like to view the Alpine Management Console , but their software is not allowing it. Their customer service representatives should assist you.

Third-party toolbars

Third-party toolbars, such as Google Toolbar and Hotbar, can add functionality to your Web browser. Unfortunately, they may also interfere with the Alpine Management Console because they often include pop-up blockers, or they may redirect your browser to a different Web site.

Symptoms of problems caused by third-party toolbars: Because some third-party toolbars include pop-up blockers, you may experience some of the same issues that are associated with pop-up blockers. Some toolbars may redirect your browser to a search page when you try to get to the Alpine Management Console.

Recommendations: If you are experiencing any of the symptoms described above, please contact the company from which you purchased or downloaded the toolbar. Let them know that you would like to view the Alpine Management Console, but their software is interfering. Their customer service representatives should assist you.

Note: To disable third-party toolbars in Internet Explorer, from the View menu, select Toolbars, and then click to clear any third-party toolbars. It may still be necessary to uninstall the toolbar to prevent it from interfering with the Alpine Management Console. In this example, we are disabling the Google toolbar.

Spyware

Changes to your Web browser that you did not make, such as extra toolbars, different homepage settings, or changes to your favorites list, could indicate that you have spyware running on your system. Spyware can also cause pop-up ads to appear that are unrelated to the Web site you are viewing. Spyware ads often contain offensive material. Hyperlinks may not work or may take you somewhere you did not expect. A sluggish system may also be a sign that spyware has infected your computer.

Symptoms of problems caused by spyware: Spyware may prevent you from using links on the Alpine Management Console or it may redirect your browser to an unexpected page.

Recommendations: To remove spyware from your system, you will need to install spyware removal software, which you can find easily by searching the Internet.

Firewalls

Firewalls do their jobs very well, but they can block some of the harmless-but-necessary the Alpine Management Console application cookies from reaching your computer.

Symptoms of problems caused by firewalls: If you are using the Alpine Management Console and you are experiencing issues with pop-up windows failing to open as expected, pages not loading properly, or "Error on Page" alerts, they may be related to your firewall software settings.

Recommendations: Refer to the documentation for the firewall or contact the company that you purchased or downloaded the firewall from to learn how to allow the Alpine Management Console cookies to access your computer and Alpine Management Console pop-up windows to appear.

Note: Browser settings can also prevent you from viewing the Alpine Management Console.

Note: After making changes to your computer, it may be necessary to clear the temporary Internet files, cookies, and history from your Web browser before the changes will take effect.
